Scholarship Program

LGFP, in partnership with the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA), proudly offers an annual scholarship program, aimed at empowering finance professionals to build their capability to support their organisation in providing financially sustainable service delivery for their communities.

Two scholarships are available for 2024, providing recipients with enrolment in IPWEA’s Professional Certificate in Infrastructure Financial Management (ProCert IFM) course, valued at $3,100.


Scholarship Objectives

  • Support Queensland’s local government finance professionals in developing capacity and credentials in infrastructure financial management.
  • Contribute to strengthening infrastructure financial management in the Queensland local government sector.
  • Promoting broader awareness and understanding of the vital link between long-term financial planning and asset management.

Applications will open on 6 May 2024 for the ProCert IFM course commencing on 2 September 2024.


Course Overview

  • Featuring 6 online modules, over 7 weeks, you will learn global best-practice from internationally renowned experts.
  • Built for busy professionals looking to fast-track their development, delivered via a mix of online content, videos and coursework.
  • Gain the capability to work across your organisation linking asset management planning and financial management planning to achieve service objectives.
  • The course references the IPWEA International Infrastructure Financial Management Manual (IIFMM) and is aligned to the International Accounting and Financial Reporting Standards and reflects guidance provided in ISO/TS 55010.

Eligibility Criteria

Scholarship applicants must:

  • Be a financial member of LGFP at the time of application, and for the duration of the course.
  • Be employed by a Queensland local government at the time of application.
  • Be available to enrol in the Semester 2 course starting on 2 September 2024, and meet the required course assessment deadlines.

Applications must address the following:

1. Outline your career plans in local government finance and the connection between the IFMPro Course and your career goals.
2. Explain how the IFMPro Course will enhance your current role in supporting infrastructure financial management.
3. Provide details of your past academic record (qualifications and achievements) and work experience.

All applications must be supported by your direct Manager/ supervisor.

Applications will be reviewed by an Assessment Panel selected by LGFP and IPWEA. All applicants will be notified of the outcome. Decisions are final and not subject to correspondence or review.
